Kerygma 4 Kids - Grade 4, Chapter 1 --- You are God's work of art

In this first section, we want to help each child discover the personal love of God. Fourth graders like to create. Drawing on their sense of creativity and their ability to think logically, the children can begin to explore the idea that God is their creator and appreciate their uniqueness in creation. The discussion should help children understand that just as they love what they create, God loves what He creates. As children begin to be more self-aware, it's important to affirm them in who they are and assure them of God's personal love.

Reflection questions can be discussed with partners, in small groups, or moderated in a large group setting. How these sessions are facilitated will depend on the size of your group and the number of helpers you have to facilitate discussion. Small groups work best when facilitated by a teen or an adult.

Be sure to create an appropriate environment for the guided Scripture meditation, free from noise and distractions. You may want to use instrumental background music during the meditation to help block distractions. Allow the Holy Spirit to direct you in what you say and the length of time you spend in the prayer. Be confident that the Lord will, in fact, speak to the hearts of the children.

As you draw this section to a close, help the children understand that God is interested in them and assure them of His steadfast love. Fourth graders generally have a strong love for their parents and sensitivity to the quality of relationships. The Fatherhood of God can be used to help the children understand that God is faithful and loving.
